Life of a Scientist 1 & 2 by Nikki Selsfield

Love is on the horizon. Book one consists of a lot of back story. We learn about Alan, his job and his relationships. Let’s get into it!

Alan is a timid research scientist at Helmnook Pharmaceuticals. He was a single man who worked with six other scientists. One day, Derek his boss invited him to a trade show. Since Derek was unable to attend the entire event, he asked Alan to take his for the remainder of the time. Alan hesitantly accepted. He felt anxious and even asked Dererk if he was trying to “take him out of his comfort zone.” He was so timid he felt socially inept. Nevertheless, he accepted. He attended with coworkers: Jason, Scott, May, Derek, and Sara. Everyone knew about Alan’s shy demeanor. While at the event, Alan met a beautiful woman. She gave him her number, and his friends cheered him on while speaking with her. However, when he tried to text her, he didn’t get a reply. Therefore, he didn’t pursue the relationship further. But something else began to blossom between he and Sarah. She thought he was a great catch. So, after the trade show, Alan and his coworkers headed to the Pub. So, what happened when Sarah and Alan leave together? You have to read it to find out.

Love Life of a Scientist has a limited amount of romance. I would have liked to see more of it throughout the story. We learn a little about his family life and his character. We also discover he has self-deprecating ways. There is some head popping in this book as well. Overall it is a fast read and prepares you for book two.

In book two we learn a little about Sarah and her relationship. We also learned that Alan wanted a child of his own. There was also recapping from book one. Let’s get into it.

Sarah really cared about Alan. We saw this when a fire broke out in the building and Sarah didn’t see Alan in the vicinity. Her worry disintegrated when Alan came into view. Relieved, she enwrapped him into an tight embrace. And something interesting is revealed between Alan and Sarah’s roommate. But I won’t spoil it for you.

This story is more about the chase and how Alan is a great catch. But he consistently missed opportunities because of his self-doubt and self-deprecating tendencies. Also, it ends on a cliffhanger. Overall, I felt it needed a little more romance, but if you like stories that are about the chase, you may want to read the Love Life of a Scientist.
