Instinct by Allison Blackwood

This was a beautiful story. The writing was wonderful and the character development was noteworthy. I’ll get into more details as we go. So, let’s get into it!

The characters were set in a time and place where words were not pronounced. Instead, when communicating, they signed. Sometimes they grunted.

The heroine of the story lived amongst a clan of women. They protected one another. This dwelling place was imperative, considering that her mom was carried away by two men when she was just a girl. No one in the village trusted men.

“Men were Vile.”

Thankfully, she had the clan’s protection. She was grateful for that. However, she didn’t like everyone in the clan. But she did have a best friend--Greeneyes. The heroine also had a furry companion--Pup.

One day while going to the pool to swim with Pup, she met a male beautiful stranger. He didn’t appear threatening. In fact, he just stared. When she held out her weapon, he simply held out his hands in retreat. To the heroine's surprise, Pup felt an instant kinship with the stranger as he offered pup a treat.

After that eventful day, she was greeted by the stranger everyday. He didn’t harm her. Instead, they grew closer. Since they were from separate clans, sometimes it took time to understand one another's signs. But they were patient. She no longer thought of him as a stranger. They were becoming friends. However, something deeper was happening between them. Her heart would no longer allow her to view him as a stranger, and she began falling for him. Her feelings were reciprocated.

Unfortunately, she couldn’t share this amazing being with the clan. What would they think? Men were abhorred. But she wanted to be with him. She had to formulate a plan. Otherwise, if the clan found out about their relationship, the love of her life could be killed.

I won’t go further into detail, but it was a very sweet and sensational read. Blackwood delivered. Although the characters didn’t have verbal expressions, she captured their communication superbly. The heroine’s interpretation helped the reader to understand their language.

I loved how gentle and patient the hero was with the heroine. He took time with her. His patience was a stark contrast to what she believed about men.

The story was well written. The world she built for the characters was well defined. It held my interest from beginning to end. If you’re looking for a great romance to read, look no further!

An ARC was provided in exchange for an honest review.
