Jason and Kyra by Dana Davidson - 4.5 stars

What can I say about this YA romance, but refreshing?

This is the first book that I’ve read by Dana Davidson. She does an excellent job of displaying the chemistry between the characters.

Jason was the popular guy in school. He seemed to have it all but, there were parts of his life that he kept hidden away from his friends. He was intrigued by Kyra. The standard of beauty in his circle clashed with Kyra's style, but that didn't stop him from yearning for her.

Kyra was a confident and smart heroine who wore her hair natural despite what people said about it. And people did make negative comments. She had a wonderful family life and friendships. Her life was complete. Nope. Not quite. Enter Jason…

When the two are placed together for a project, things shift in their world. As they continued to deny their feelings, their hearts continued to be drawn to one another. Until they realized what they need is one another.

“Kyra Evans loves me. She knows all that she knows and she loves me.”

But they had to figure out a way to make it work with opposition standing in their way.

The story was engaging, and the characters were well developed. They were African-American high school students who thrived and were from affluent families. They had typical problems. I loved the portrayal of natural hair and the beauty of acceptance.

I was lost in the story and didn’t want it to end. It broke my heart in some instances. The reason I gave it a 4.5 is it had a slow start. Despite that, it was a sweet romance that had me swooning until the last page.

If you want to read a sweet romance, crack open Jason and Kyra and fall in love.
